NOTE: as of OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), this feature is no longer working. In fact, it has to be turned off, or else PandaPow won’t be able to connect.
This can be used for sharing the VPN connection of a Mac with devices that don’t support VPN, such as Apple TV, Gaming consoles, et c.
Note this feature is no longer supported. If you wish to connect VPN-less device to PandaPow, please use PandaPow WiFi.
On your Mac
First make sure you have PandaPow 2.1 or later installed. Check the version in the Info of the Details… window. Go here for the latest download of PandaPow for Mac
Step 1.
To start sharing you need to disconnect PandaPow, enable sharing, then connect PandaPow again.
To enable sharing, open the PandaPow Details…, click Settings, then check the box for Share connection.
Step 2.
Find out the IP address of your Mac.
To do so you can open System Preferences > Network and select the network connection that connects your mac to your router (usually Wifi, Airport or Ethernet).
In the right of the Network window you should find the IP address. Normally something like: 192.168.1.101
On the other device
On the other device, you need to locate the network settings and choose to set a Static IP address, and set the Gateway to the IP address of your mac. You may also have to set a DNS.
Exactly how to do this varies from device to device, but it’s normally not very complicated. If you need help with this, please drop us a line and we’ll help out best we can. It helps if you can find the network settings of your device and include a screenshot of what they are set to currently.
Below is an example of what the settings might look like. The gateway might also be called Default Gateway or Router.
IP Address: 192 . 168 . 1 . 155 --- Must be unique in your Network Subnet mask: 255 . 255 . 255 . 0 Gateway: 192 . 168 . 1 . 101 --- The IP of your Mac Primary DNS: 8 . 8 . 8 . 8 Secondary DNS : 8 . 8 . 4 . 4
Note: If you wish to stop using the PandaPow connection and connect directly to the Internet, all you need to do is change the Gateway to the IP address of your home router. The IP address of your home router is usually: 192.168.1.1
