How to configure L2TP on Windows

This page describes how to use L2TP without IPSec on Windows. It’s a fallback solution in case all other solutions fail.

 

Windows 7/Vista

Step 1. disable IPSEC

  1. Click Start, then in search box type: run ENTER
  2. In the Run dialog type: regedit ENTER
  3. In Registry Editor: Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Rasman\Parameters
  4. On the Edit menu, click New>DWORD
  5. As the name of the new key enter: ProhibitIpSec
  6. Double click the key to edit the value.
  7. In the Value data field, enter: 1
  8. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

 

Step 2. Setup PandaPow L2TP dialler

  1. Download the following file to your computers Desktop: PandaPow-L2TP.pbk
  2. Double-click it and select the server you wish to connect to, and click Connect
  3. Fill in the VPN username and password, check the box to save the username and password, then connect.
  4. If this is the first time you connect this location, you will be asked what type of connection it is. You can choose a Home network.

You will see that you’re connected if you click on the network icon in the system tray. To disconnect, you’ll have to click on the PandaPow-L2TP file and click on Hang up.

 

Windows XP

Step 1. disable IPSEC

  2. In Registry Editor: Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Rasman\Parameters
  3. On the Edit menu, click New>DWORD
  4. As the name of the new key enter: ProhibitIpSec
  5. Double click the key to edit the value.
  6. In the Value data field, enter: 1
  7. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

 

Step 2. Setup PandaPow L2TP dialler

  1. Download the following file to your computers Desktop: PandaPow-L2TP.pbk
  2. Double-click it and select the server you wish to connect to, and click Connect

  4. If this is the first time you connect this location, you will be asked what type of connection it is. You can choose a Home network.
